Hartpury Training Day
Cool Ridings brought together riders from across the UK for a powerful and inclusive training day at Hartpury University and Hartpury College.
The experience enabled us to bring together riders for an empowering day of learning, development and community connection. True to the Cool Ridings mission, the day championed diversity and accessibility, creating a welcoming space where riders from all backgrounds could connect, grow and thrive. Ridden sessions were led by highly respected five star event rider and British Eventing coach Jo Rimmer, delivering high quality, tailored training in a supportive and welcoming environment. Working with Jo gave riders the opportunity to build self belief, refine their technique and strengthen their partnership with their horses. Feedback from our Members was overwhelmingly positive:
“I’ve never felt so comfortable and supported in a training environment, everyone was so encouraging and the standard of coaching was incredible.”
“Jo’s teaching completely changed how I think about my riding. I’ve come away with so much more confidence.”
The day also featured rider specific fitness sessions led by Ifa Simmonds, who brought both expert knowledge on strength and stability along with infectious positive energy! Another highlight of the event was a plaiting demonstration hosted by Cool Ridings Member Maddie, offering riders of all ages the chance to develop practical skills in a welcoming and supportive setting.
One Cool Ridings Member said, “It felt like more than just a training day. Being around people who understand your journey is so powerful.”
Throughout the day, meaningful conversations around representation and opportunity within equestrian sport reinforced the importance of creating accessible pathways for underrepresented riders. Cool Ridings was also proud to welcome Jade Faulkner, Charles Owen Head of Product & Brand Development whose presence highlighted the importance of rider safety and accessibility. Helmet fitting was a key moment for many attendees, particularly as riders from Afro Caribbean backgrounds have historically faced challenges in finding helmets that fit correctly without pressure points. Cool Ridings extends sincere thanks to Hartpury University and Hartpury College for providing world class facilities that made the day possible and for their commitment to supporting inclusive initiatives. Founder, Lydia Heywood said: “This is exactly why Cool Ridings exists and I am committed to creating spaces where riders feel confident and supported.”
Phillip Cheetham, Equine Director at Hartpury University and Hartpury College said: “Hosting events like this is central to Hartpury’s commitment to widening access and creating meaningful opportunities within equestrian sport. By providing world-class facilities and an inclusive environment, we’re proud to support initiatives that help riders from all backgrounds develop, connect and succeed.”
Following the success of this event, Cool Ridings will return to Hartpury in June, continuing to build on this growing partnership and deliver empowering experiences to underrepresented riders across the country. This is another significant milestone collaboration for Cool Ridings as it continues to expand its impact, creating spaces where riders feel seen, supported and celebrated. The atmosphere was one of encouragement and empowerment, with riders leaving feeling motivated, inspired and better equipped to progress in their equestrian journeys.
